DMS Online Ordering Management Part 2

DMS Website Design Setup

DataWedge Tools

As previously mentioned last month; “Businesses that don't have the want, will, or time to invest in a custom web site for their business, DataWedge has assembled multiple templates that can be quickly deployed and changed by the user. Everything needed for an online business is available…”

This month, we are going to show you the DataWedge System and how easy it really is for any "Restaurant Delivery Service" to build a professional website, host it, manage and promote it. Our web site building modules are designed specifically for people who want to focus on running their business instead of mastering complex technology and design skills needed to build and market a web site.

The DataWedge System is simple, yet powerful solution for creating a successful web presence. With our point and click technology and easy-to-use tools anyone can create and publish a website, market the site to attract customers, take online orders, accept credit card payments, and easily maintain your site with fresh, dynamic content. No programming or HTML skills are needed. Whether you're a "seasoned" web designer or you've never tried to create a web page before, you can easily create, build, host and maintain your own website using the DataWedge System.

When an RDS elects to use our professional web templates, they get to choose from a number of complete, working web sites assembled for the RDS Industry. The site includes unique pages, working navigation, relevant images - even usable text! If you're rushed for time, just drop in your RDS business name and logo, add your RDS contact information, and publish the site as-is! You can always "tweak" it later using the admin pages.

Selecting a Template

templates
Photo #3

Let us show you how easy it really is to use the DataWedge System. The first step in building a web site is to choose a design. Select your complete, ready-to-use template with images and industry-specific text.

(NOTE: The order in which we are displaying each module has no bearing on the order you must take to customize your own web site.)

Photo #3 shows our Templates. Open the "Template Design" module then select the template you want to use. Remember the template you select will affect the overall look and feel of your entire web site. Click the radio button next to the design that you prefer, then click "Save".

To view the selected template open your web browser, (ie: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape) and type your Domain Name in the address bar, (ie: www.myrds.com). You may need to clear your web browser cache to see the results of your change when you view your web site.

Selecting Colors

Colors

Photo #4 shows the "Engine/Template Colors" module. You may either click on a color, or manually enter a valid hexadecimal color code. After you've made your selection click "Save".

Uploading Files

Uploading Files
Photo #5

Photo #5 shows the module used to "Upload Files". This location is intended for the more "seasoned" HTML programmers that wish to have a web place to upload custom photos or custom menus. Using HTML code, it's possible to embed uploaded files and photos into your custom text on any of the individual web pages. This is also the location where your uploaded files are stored on the DataWedge server. You may only upload "PDF Files, and Image Files" (such as JPG, GIF, and PNG). The file size cannot be larger than 500kb. You may store a maximum of 20 files on the DataWedge server.

Uploading files is a simple process. Click "Browse", locate the PDF file or image file on your computer then double click the file. Make sure the file path was placed in the textbox and click "Upload". This will then upload the file to your personal directory on the DataWedge server.

You may embed links to these files wherever you wish, including on your "Custom Text" pages. The link that you should use to access the file may be found next to the files that have been uploaded.

Uploading Template Logo

Upload Logo
Photo #6

Photo #6 shows the "Upload Template Logo" module. This is where you upload your business logo. This is the image that will appear as the "logo" in the top portion of your template; the actual location of the logo will vary depending on which template you are using. You may only upload one JPEG image file (JPG or JPEG).

The size of your logo file may be 500kb or less. So the file fits in the template properly, your logo will be resized to be 150 pixels in HEIGHT. The width will scale accordingly. For best results, upload an image that is at least 150 pixels in HEIGHT.

A logo is uploaded the same way the files are uploaded. Click "Browse", locate the logo on your computer then double click on it. Make sure the file path is placed in the textbox and click. This will then upload the file to your personal directory on the DataWedge server. To change the image simply upload a new image and it will replace the old image.

Selecting Template Pages

Login Screen
Photo #7

Photo #7 shows the "Template Pages" module. Use this module to add pages to your web site. Select which pages you want to appear on your website and enter the META information you want to contain in the HTML code of your template pages.

META information is important so use it. We see so many leaving this feature blank. META Information is the descriptive information the search engine spiders use to learn more about what content your site has on it, making it easier to be found by searchers. The “META Description” is a free-form description about your site, normally in the format of a basic sentence describing what your web site is about. "META Keywords" are a list of descriptive words or phrases “comma-separated” that relate to your business (ie "food, delivery, restaurant, multi restaurant delivery" etc). Most search engines say that you should include up to 25 words or phrases, with each word or phrase separated by commas. "META TAGS" like everything has rules. To learn more about "META TAGS" visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_tag or Google "Meta Information".

Select each page you want on your website by placing a checkmark in the checkbox next to that page. When you are finished, click "Save". To remove pages from your web site, remove the checkmark. When you are finished, click "Save".

(NOTE: Not all pages are currently available in all templates. Go to your web browser to view the template pages selected.

Selected Pages

Selected Pages
Photo #8

Those selected pages you want to appear on your website that are editable will be listed as shown above in Photo #8 when you open the "Template Text" module. Only the pages that can be customized will appear in this list.

Each page in the list is a link (ie: If you want to edit the “About Page” click on that page) to the page editor shown below in Photo #9.

Page Edit Module
Edit Pages
Photo #9

The "Page Editor" module shown in Photo #9 is a WYSIWYG HTML editor/web page builder that allows you to create/edit your web pages without knowing a thing about HTML. If you can use Microsoft Word, then you can use the DataWedge page editor.

The template page HTML is limited to 7900 characters. Please note, this means a limit of 7900 characters is placed in the HTML code that is used to generate your text, which may be more characters than the actual words within the page. To view and edit the HTML code that will generate your formatted text, use the "HTML" tab in the editor located in the bottom left corner of the editor.

Custom Ordering Messages

Custom Ordering Messages
Photo #11

Custom messages are optional  but powerful. They offer you the opportunity to provide additional important information to your customer that is relevant to your particular business. Use these as a marketing tool as well. Photo #11 shows the "Custom Ordering Message" module. You may deliver custom messages to your customers at certain points in the online ordering process.

Enter your information in the textbox. When you are finished click "Save".

Order Engine
Photo #12

Photo #12 shows the "Opening Page" of the online ordering  engine snap-in with custom information added.

(NOTE: To include a space between your information use the "HTML Code <br><br>". If you want to start a new line use the <br> code 1 time, to separate  with a space as shown above, use the double <br><br> code. Example of how to write the message in the textbox: ...orders at 5PM.<br><br>Place your zip...)

DataWedge Services

Web Services...

The process of caring and feeding your own web server on your local network can be an expensive and daunting task.  Not many companies have the financial resources to purchase and maintain the hardware necessary to run a web server out of their office, in addition to the technical savvy necessary to keep it secure from hackers on the internet.

DataWedge created an On-Line Ordering engine to help solve some of these problems. Your restaurant and menu data is uploaded and hosted securely on a DataWedge professionally hosted internet server, away from your office internet connection - giving hackers no place to scratch away at your network.

DataWedge Sample Site

The DataWedge system is a "pay-for-what-you-use" system.  This means for as little as $50 per month, yousample site can have a professional web presence available on the internet including restaurant information, menus, and on-line ordering. Use of our templates and get on the internet in a matter of days!  For an example of a template site, you can click here, or click here.

Do you have an existing web site, but just want to include on-line ordering functionality?  No problem... our On-Line Web engine has the ability to be wrapped inside a frame.  Measuring only 720 pixels wide, you can easily integrate your own web site around an instance of an ordering engine, and have the ability to push DMS data out to the internet, and have orders push directly into your system.  To see examples of companies that have integrated their own web sites with our ordering engines, you can click here, or you can click here.

If you would like more information on our on-line ordering engine, please don't hesitate to contact us (208) 874-4185 .
